Continue Quest – Journey Rail

A quest rail at chapter 3 of 9, with a marker at Gate 3 and an assurance that nothing was lost.

What this screen does

Chapter 3 of 9 places the viewer a third of the way through — past the beginning, nowhere near the end. That position carries a specific feeling: enough invested to make abandoning wasteful, enough left to be worth returning for. Later in the story and there is little to look forward to; earlier and there is little to lose.

'Pick up exactly where you stopped — nothing is lost' answers the real reason lapsed players do not return. It is rarely that they stopped enjoying it; it is the fear that coming back means starting again, or facing a save they no longer understand. Removing that fear is worth more than any reward.

The rail shows the shape of what is ahead. Six chapters drawn but unvisited is a visible promise of content, which does more for a returning player than a description of how much game there is.

'CONTINUE AT GATE 3' names the exact place. A named location the player might recognise is far more evocative than a chapter number, and it implies the game remembers them.

The card is deliberately quiet — no countdown, no scarcity, no offer. Returning to a story does not need urgency, and manufacturing some would sit badly against the reassurance the card is built on.

Best for

  • Story-driven and campaign games
  • Adventure, RPG and narrative puzzle titles
  • Re-engagement for players who stopped mid-campaign — this card exists for that
  • Serialised content outside gaming: courses, audiobooks, episodic media
  • Products where progress is linear and resumable

Making it yours

  • Use your real chapter structure and place names — recognition is what makes this feel personal.
  • Set the position around a third of the way in, or use the player's genuine progress if you can personalise.
  • Keep the reassurance about saved progress, and make sure it is true.
  • Show the rail continuing past the marker; the unplayed portion is the promise.
  • Resist adding urgency. The calm tone is doing the work here.
  • Match the art to your world — this card is mostly atmosphere and a line.

Next steps

Templates are a starting point, not a constraint. The documentation walks through changing one into your own ad and exporting it.
