Resume The Episode – Waveform

A waveform with the playhead at 12:04 and 38:22 left — an episode abandoned partway, with the title still doing its work.

What this screen does

The playhead is the whole card. Twelve minutes in is past the point of sampling and short of finishing, which is exactly where podcast listening actually breaks — the commute ended, the walk finished. The card resumes something rather than starting it, and resuming is a far smaller ask.

'WHY GOOD TEAMS SHIP SLOWLY' is a title with a claim inside it. It contradicts something the viewer probably believes, and a person who saw that headline twelve minutes ago and stopped still does not know the argument. The unresolved question is the pull, the same mechanism the quiz card uses.

'38:22 left' is honest about the commitment, and being honest is what makes it work. A viewer knows whether they have thirty-eight minutes, and pretending the episode is shorter converts a click that immediately abandons.

'4,200 people finished this one this week' is the right proof for audio. Not downloads or subscribers but completions — the metric that says the episode is worth the remaining thirty-eight minutes, which is the only question the viewer is asking.

'Free · download for offline' addresses the practical reality of listening: it happens on trains, planes and runs, where connectivity is unreliable.

Best for

  • Podcast apps and audio platforms
  • Individual shows promoting a specific episode
  • Audiobook and long-form audio services
  • Re-engagement for listeners with unfinished episodes — the strongest use of this card
  • Business, technology and interview formats where the title can carry a genuine claim

Making it yours

  • Use a real episode with a title that argues something. A descriptive title has no pull; a contrarian one does.
  • Set the playhead past the sampling point and well short of the end.
  • State the true remaining time.
  • Use a completion figure rather than a download figure — it is the more honest number and the more persuasive one.
  • Match the waveform to real audio if you can; a decorative one is a small lie in a card built on specificity.
  • The pattern works for any partly consumed long-form content — video, articles, courses.

Next steps

Templates are a starting point, not a constraint. The documentation walks through changing one into your own ad and exporting it.
